There is nothing worst than realizing you forgot to pack your makeup bag once you are struggling to zip your travel bag together. I can not tell you how many times I have done that. It is so frustrating. Your bag is already full to capacity but you can not go without your makeup bag. You have to unzip your bag and find room for it and it can not just be thrown anywhere. What if something breaks or cracks open. Then you have no makeup and messed up clothes. What a NIGHTMARE! Lucky for me I am not the only person that has this problem. There are four different cosmetic companies that have products that carter to this need.

New Year’s Eve Makeup

Lately I have been so into makeup. I am always looking at tuturials and reading how to apply makeup poperly. Makeup can be so tricky and time consuming. One of the most important things I have learned is to make sure you know what your face shape is. That really determines how you should use the various types of makeup on your face as well as what will look best on you. Looking at all these toturials got me thinking about new years and how I would like for my makeup to look on new years eve. Two things that I like is the sprakly eye lids and of course red lips. From what I have read sparkly eye lids are not hard to achieve. You would start off with your normal eye prep then simply shade your choice of gold or silver glitter shadow from the lashline to the your crease. Then you finsih the look by swooping black eyeliner on your crease. Now for your red lips. I am sure most of you have a red lipstick you are in love with. Simply apply a lip primer on before applying your lip stick. This will help your lipstick to stay on and keep the color bright. Here are some makeup looks that I would love to try for news years.

Activated Charcoal

I am always looking for new great beauty tricks to try out. Recently I have been reading about activated charcoal. Activated charcoal is when oxygen is added to regular charcoal. Believe it or not activated charcoal has some really good beauty benefits. Activated charcoal is known to absorb 100 to 200 times its weight in impurities. In other words it is an outstanding natural ingredient to help purify and deep cleanse your skin (nydailynews.com). Activated charcoal draws out bacteria, poisons, chemicals, dirt, and other micro particles to the surface of the skin. This will help achieve a flawless complexion and fight acne (livestrong.com). How do you use the activated charcoal powder? You can create a simple mask at home.

Ingredients:

½ teaspoon of activated charcoal powder

½ teaspoon water

½ teaspoon aloe vera gel

2 drops of tea tree oil (optional)

You mix all the ingredients together in a shot glass with a q-tip until the mixture becomes a paste. Then using the same q-tip, paint the paste on your face. Keep the mask on until it hardens. Then wash mask off with warm water. Another great thing you can use the activated charcoal for is whiting your teeth. The activated charcoal will grab all the plaque from your teeth. All you have to do is dab your toothbrush with toothpaste on it into a small amount of charcoal (xovain.com). Brush as you normally would and within days you will see the difference. You can purchase activated charcoal powder at Amazon, Walgreens, and even Walmart. The price ranges from store to store but you a good amount for cheap. Keep in mind you don’t need a lot to make the mask or whiten your teeth.

Can you really use too much lip balm??

image

Lip balm or chap-stick as I call it is something that most people use on a regular basis. I often hear a lot of people say that I am addicted to lip balm. Can you actually be addicted to lip balm? I have read several articles and all of them say no. You can not be addicted to lip balm because lip balms provide a surface effect. It is designed to be water resistant and bind to the lip surface (beautylish.com). What is happening to your lips after using lip balm so much is your lips develop sensitivity to the ingredients. The sensitivity leads to a reaction in lips that adds to a chapped feeling (buzzfeed.com). Of course the more you use lip balm the more sensitive you become and the worse you lips feel. Everything is better in moderation including lip balm. Pay attention to the ingredients in your lip balms. Lip balms that have menthol, alcohol, and or fragrances can irritate and dry out your lips. Ingredients like beeswax and coco butter help moisturize and protect lips (swedishcovenant.org). Believe it or not the best lip balm you can use is plain Vaseline.

How to apply faux lashes

I have got faux lashes put on twice. Each experience was different for me, but I haven’t tried them again in over 4 years. I’ve always seen tutorials on how to put them on yourself and I know multiple people who self-install. After watching some of the tutorials and getting some best practices I tried installing them myself. I am not sure what held me back before but this process is definitely easy. This is not something I can see myself doing each time I put on makeup, but whenever I want to take it up a notch I will add lashes. Here are the steps I took to apply my faux lashes.

1. Measure and fit: measure the lashes to ensure it fits properly on your eye shape. Place the lash against your lash line and cut of the extra lash on each side. It is important to cut some lash on each side of the lashes to maintain a natural look.
2. Makeup: Apply all makeup to your face that you plan on wearing. Your lashes should be the last thing you apply. This will allow you to ensure proper placement of your eyeliner and other eye makeup.
3. Apply glue: Depending on the type of glue bottle you have place glue on the lashes. If you feel like too much glue will come out use a toothpick to smear the glue on the lashes. Wait for the glue to become tacky before placing lashes on lash line.
4. Apply Lashes: Some lashes come with a lash applicator and some do not. Lash applicators help to place the lash as close as possible to the lash line. If you do not have a lash applicator your hands are just as good. Place the lashes as close to your lash line and then use a tooth pick to push the lash down as far as possible on the lash line.
*Note the longer the lashes and/or the packed they are the more fake they look.

One of my good friends loves Family Dollar. She’s always coming back and telling me about the wonderful treasures she finds in there. I am no stranger to Family Dollar I have gone looking for multiple items in there myself. Recently my friend discovered Chucky Lips in Family Dollar. Chucky Lips is a Lip pencil made by L.A. Colors and it comes in 18 scented shades. I am not sure were else or how much Chucky Lips cost in other places. However there is a Family Dollar just about everywhere and they only cost $2. Now I am telling you about Chucky Lips because you have to go and try the wonderful lip pencil. I honestly was not expecting a lot from a $2 lip pencil from Family Dollar when my friend told me about them. I was not even going to purchase one, but she bought one so I had to try it. I am so in love! In the past I have tried lip pencils and they are hard to apply and leave your lips feeling dry. Chucky Lips are soft, creamy and leave your lips feeling moisturized. They provide intense color and the perfect shine. Its like lipstick and a gloss all in one. Here are the all the colors I have now. You have to go and try Chucky Lips out for yourself. I would love to hear what my readers think of the product.

Hot Water Makup Trick

image

I am the kind of person that likes to get my money’s worth out of everything I purchase. That especially goes for my makeup products. You can never have enough mascara or lip gloss, so it is a pain when your expensive mascara starts to dry out or you cannot get the last bit of lip gloss out of the tube. I hate it when those things happen because it always happens at the worst time. Like when it is 9 p.m. and you’re getting dressed to go out and your husband is already rushing you. You don’t have time to purchase new mascara now and you need it. You definitely do not have time to take 20 minutes getting your favorite lip gloss out of the tube when it normally only takes 3 seconds. Well I have a trick that will solve both of these problems in 2 minutes. Soaking the entire tube of dried out mascara with the lid on tight in hot water for 2 minutes. Soaking the mascara will soften the mascara and then it will glide on as smoothly as the day you bought it (beautylish.com). As for the lip gloss, soaking it in hot water will make the gloss run down the sides and back into the bottom of the tube so that you can now reach it with the wand again (beautylish.com).

If you wear makeup you have had the heartbreak of dropping you make bag on the floor.  Or even worse, while doing your makeup in the car you take the wrong turn and all your precious expensive makeup items go crashing to the floor.  We all have done this and have felt as if the world was ending right before our eyes.  Well I have come across a solution to this problem.  This will work with eye shadow, powder, and bronzer.

  1. Gather all the broken pieces up and smash them into a fine powder in the compact it was in.
  2. Then drip one or two drops of rubbing alcohol on the top of the powder.
  3. Stir into it becomes a paste using something thin and flat.
  4. Smooth out the paste in the compact.
  5. Wrap a coin in a thin piece of cloth and press it into the compact packing it down
  6. After 2 minutes the rubbing alcohol would have evaporated and the makeup will be one again!

Maintaining you Manicure with Oil

image

Lately I have notice that a lot of beauty tricks involve some type of oil.  Natural oils have tons of great beauty benefits and I have come across another one.  Rubbing facial oil into your manicure nightly can prevent cracks in your polish resulting in a longer lasting manicure.  The oil penetrates the polish and makes it flexible.  “Now when you hit your nails they will flex and not crack” says Tom Machik in Shape Magazine October 2014.  I am not sure how well this works but it is worth a try.  Tom Machik suggest using a facial oil specifically, I am assuming that is to ensure the oil will penetrate the polish well.  I would love to hear from my readers once you have tried this to get opinions on if it works or not.
